Father and son duo win £2000 at Pallatrax Carp Open

Jason and Peter Budd got their names onto the winner’s board and were £2000 better off after winning the July Pallatrax Carp Open at Upper Tamar Lake. They chose peg 26 (Lookout tower) on the Cornwall Bank at the 83 acre venue. They managed 4 fish for 42.11 and also lost one fish.

The draw was done at 1pm on the Friday and each angler was given a Pallatrax goody bag with a selection of their baits and end tackle and a complimentary 24 hour permit for Lower Tamar lake. Anglers were transported to their swims and the competition began at 4pm.

2 minutes in and the first carp was landed for Ryan Wilshire and Matt Pepperell at the far end of the Devon bank on peg 17. Unfortunately the fish moved out of the shallow end and it was their only fish but it is a new record for fastest fish caught at our competitions.

Fish were caught steadily the whole weekend despite the really warm humid conditions with 29 caught in total from 15 different pegs. It made for a really close competition and anyone from 10 different pegs could have finished third with one fish right up until the final hooter sounded.

Aaaron Rundle and Mike Toms led from Friday night to Sunday morning but had to settle for the £1000 second place when the Budd’s caught a couple of fish on the final morning.

Former winners Barry and Ben O’Connor were third and scooped £500 with their three fish haul from the shallows on peg 7 at the end of the arm on the Devon Bank.
